I Went Looking for Forgotten Miner’s Huts on Slieve Lamagan

Starting from Carrick Little Top Car Park, I headed out towards the base of Slieve Lamagan on a mission to find something most hikers probably walk straight past — the remains of old miner’s huts hidden away on the mountain. Using Google Maps, Ordnance Survey maps and a bit of old-fashioned exploring, I followed the terrain towards the old quarry workings, searching for clues of the people who once worked these mountains. Along the way I also came across Percy Bysshe, an impressive rocky outcrop sitting on the slopes of Slieve Lamagan. This wasn’t about reaching a summit. It was about getting off the usual beaten path, following the clues and discovering a little piece of Mourne Mountain history that’s easy to overlook.
