As the holiday season approaches, the New Hope Railroad fired up their steam workhorse, 2-8-0 "Consolidation" #40. According to tradition, the locomotive would be tasked with hauling "Santa's Steam Spectacular", an excursion operating from New Hope, PA to Lahaska and return. Along with the festive décor adorning the smokebox of 40, the locomotive sports a Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe passenger 5 chime that echoes through the hillsides and forests of Bucks County. With the festive trains continuing for 2022, a caboose and three steel coaches follow behind as it navigates through the woodlands. Come along as we follow the consolidation in the traditional "Winter Steam Through the Hillside" of Bucks County by Keystone Rail Productions (Our first in 4K!). History of NH&I 40: New Hope & Ivyland Railroad 40 is a 2-8-0 consolidation built in December of 1925 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, PA. The engine was originally built for Lancaster & Chester Railroad in South Carolina. In 1962, 40 was eventually purchased and moved into the Reading shops in New Hope, Pennsylvania alongside her stablemate, a Canadian National 4-6-0, 1533. In 1974, 40 was restored to operating condition and hauled excursions on the newly formed New Hope Steam Railroad alongside 1533. In 2014, an FRA mandated 1,472 day inspection sidelined 40 until late 2017, when the locomotive was finally returned to service after the major rebuild. Today she shines a New Hope & Ivyland's lone steam star, and is sight well worth it for any railroad enthusiast.
