A clock is hiding a circle. A door is hiding a rectangle. A sandwich cut across the middle is hiding a triangle — and once you know how to look, shapes are hiding everywhere in your room. Pip goes on a shape hunt. Six ordinary things come to the stage one at a time, and for each one you get a real question and a long pause to answer in before the shape's edge is traced and lifts away onto the shelf. WHAT THIS TEACHES A shape is not a thing on its own — it is the way an ordinary object's edge goes round. Children find circle, square, triangle and rectangle inside a clock, a window, a sandwich, a door, a wheel and a party hat, count sides and corners along the traced edge, and meet the same shape twice in two objects that are alike in no other way. The square and the rectangle are compared side by side, because "four corners" is where those two get confused. WHO IT IS FOR Ages 4 and 5 — preschool and kindergarten.
