Formosa900-Day 5: Kaohsiung to Hengchun (3/18/26)

Leaving Kaohsiung, we admired some of the city's beautiful architecture before continuing our journey south toward Hengchun—the southernmost town of our tour. Along the way, the Giant Adventure Team treated us to a stop at the Chaozhou Cultural Park in Pingtung County. There, we tried a famous local delicacy: Chaozhou Hot and Cold Ice (shao leng bing / 燒冷冰), a unique dessert featuring shaved ice layered over a hot, sweet soup filled with taro, red beans, and glutinous rice balls stuffed with peanut and sesame. For lunch, we stopped at the Guanziling Teapot Chicken Jialu Branch, renowned for its succulent chicken roasted in massive, wood-fired teapots. Our afternoon was spent cruising along scenic coastal roads overlooking the South China Sea. We took a relaxing break at the Jasmine Bay Sea View Coffee Restaurant in Fangshan Township to enjoy some refreshments, the beach, and the ocean views. By 4:20 PM, we checked into the Grand Bay Resort in Hengchun Township. After dinner at the hotel, we ventured out to explore the historic old town district and capped off the night with a refreshing bowl of bingzu with fruits.
