On The Day Of The Dead

Lyrics Paint the moon with a crooked grin Strike the match, let the ghosts walk in Marigolds blaze down the avenue Every old goodbye coming back in blue There’s a drumbeat under the cemetery stone A hundred lost hearts calling us home So raise your glass to the ones who ran We’re still singing where the shadows dance On the Day of the Dead, let the bells ring loud Let the living and the gone get lost in the crowd We’ll laugh through the tears, we’ll dance through the dread With the fire in our hands and the names in our heads Oh, the night won’t keep what the heart won’t forget On the Day of the Dead Sugar skulls grinning from the altar shelf I see your eyes in the candles themselves Your favorite song rattles every wall Like you’re still here, like you never left at all The guitar screams and the sparks fly high We send our love through the blackened sky If death’s a door, then tonight it swings Wide open for the songs we sing On the Day of the Dead, let the bells ring loud Let the living and the gone get lost in the crowd We’ll laugh through the tears, we’ll dance through the dread With the fire in our hands and the names in our heads Oh, the night won’t keep what the heart won’t forget On the Day of the Dead No grave can silence a love this strong No dark can swallow a last good song You’re in the stories, the sparks, the sound In every footstep that shakes this ground On the Day of the Dead, let the bells ring loud Let the living and the gone get lost in the crowd We’ll laugh through the tears, we’ll dance through the dread With the fire in our hands and the names in our heads Oh, the night won’t keep what the heart won’t forget We’ll sing till the morning, we’ll carry you yet On the Day of the Dead When the candles fade and the dawn turns red We’ll leave marigolds where the spirits tread The drums fall quiet, but the song stays set On the Day of the Dead
