Thunder In The Chilterns! Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway 2026 'Autumn Steam Gala'

In recent years, the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway - the preserved section of the fromer GWR branch line from Princes Risborough to Watlington - has played host to some of the larger beasts of the British steam era. This year, for their autumn steam gala - held between Friday 30th October & Sunday 1st November - they would bring in one of the largest of them all; a BR Standard Class 9F. This would be the sole surviving single chimney 9F, No.92134, from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. It joined the Churnet Valley Railway's American heavyweight, S160 Class No.6046, who is currently on long-term loan to the C&PR. Capping the line up off with a contrast was a bit of Victorian elegance, in the form of new-build GWR Saint Class No.2999 'Lady of Legend'. Together, the trio would provide a cracking show, raising the echoes along the line's up and down gradients. particularly up the 1 in 68 climb of Chinnor Bank.
