Basti Arjan Singh | Islam Pur Gujran | Hidden Heritage in Outskirts of Multan

The forgotten heritage of Islam Pur Gujaran, a historic settlement located about 30 kilometers from Multan, between Lothar and Budhla Sant. Known before the Partition of Indopak sub conitinent Basti as Arjun Singh, this village preserves a fascinating chapter of Multan’s pre-Partition history, migration, settlement and rural heritage. In this episode, Wasaib Explorer visits Islam Pur Gujaran on Friday, 24 July 2026, to explore its historic havelis, dera, old school and traditional village architecture. One of the historic havelis we visited bears the construction date 1934, offering a glimpse into the architectural heritage of the area. Before Partition, Chaudhry Shahab-ud-Din Gujar, originally from Zira Tehsil of Firozpur District, was serving as a police inspector in Multan. After the establishment of Pakistan, he was allotted land in Arjun Singh and helped settle members of his community here. A mosque built by him in 1956 played an important role in the settlement gradually becoming known as Islam Pur Gujaran. The village also has an old school dating from the pre-Partition period. After Partition, Sikh families continued visiting their ancestral havelis and memories for many years. Although the historic Arjun Singh haveli has become much smaller due to successive divisions of the property, the old dera still preserves much of its historic character. Our visit became even more memorable because of the warm hospitality of the local Gujar community. It was especially encouraging to see the younger generation showing interest in their cultural traditions and heritage. The simplicity, brotherhood and hospitality of the people made this visit truly memorable.
