Children’s wellbeing is part of every aspect of early years practice, rather than a separate activity. This lesson explains how practitioners support children to feel safe, cared for and ready to learn throughout the day. It explores the importance of warm, consistent relationships and the role of predictable routines in building emotional security. You’ll also learn how everyday care, including hygiene, nutrition, hydration, rest and physical activity, can promote health and growing independence. The lesson considers how to create environments that are physically safe, emotionally supportive and inclusive of children with additional needs, those learning English and children experiencing change. It also introduces a practical approach to emotional regulation: naming feelings, validating them and modelling safe coping strategies. Finally, it highlights the importance of sharing information and working in partnership with families so that support remains consistent between home and the setting.
