Bryan “Weezy” Wilson has spent decades behind the scenes helping build some of the most recognizable brands in streetwear, fashion and culture. In this episode of West Coast Bay Area, Beni Benzo sits down with Bryan Wilson for an in-depth conversation about his Bay Area upbringing, his journey into the fashion industry, the rise of LRG, his involvement with Cookies, his work with Stance, and the many brands and relationships that have shaped his career. But Bryan’s story goes beyond fashion. He was around during an important era of Bay Area hip-hop, appeared in the Luniz’ legendary “I Got 5 on It” video, and has longtime relationships with Bay Area figures including Richie Rich and E-40. Bryan takes us behind the scenes of what it was actually like helping build major brands, the difference between “streetwear” and “urban” fashion, how e-commerce changed traditional retail, and whether another company can still grow to the level of brands like LRG and Cookies today. We also get Bryan’s perspective on where men’s fashion is headed and what he’s working on next.
