“Every Yid (Jew) Is a Candle” — AJ Edelman on Representing Israel at the Olympics

“Every Yid is a candle. Every neshama is its own flame. Simply by existing and walking around, you carry a light that illuminates darkness.” At this Hineni: Here I Am evening at Chabad West Village, Olympic bobsledder AJ Edelman of ‪@israelbobsledteam‬ shared what it means to live proudly and visibly as a Jew wherever life takes you. From lighting Chanukah candles beside a bobsled track in Königssee, Germany just minutes from where Hitler once had a home, to wrapping tefillin at the Olympics, AJ reflected on the quiet power of Jewish identity and the responsibility each of us carries to bring light into the world. Hineni, which means “Here I Am,” is a speaker series at Chabad West Village featuring remarkable Jewish voices sharing where they stand, what they believe, and how Jewish identity shapes their lives. Thank you to AJ Edelman for an inspiring and unforgettable evening. With gratitude to Steeven Mallet for filming, and to the Hineni Committee: Ethan Shire, Allison Schrager, Neil Goldman, Thomas Easton, and Kyle Price.
