In the Greek, the word for forgive (aphiēmi) means to release, to send away, to let go of what you've been holding. And when Paul says love "keeps no record of wrongs" (1 Corinthians 13:5), he uses an accountant's word: love stops keeping the ledger. This is a slow, cinematic worship ballad for anyone carrying a list in their hand. It builds through "Father, forgive them" and comes back down to a quiet garden. Ashes traded for beauty, and a free heart. Verse 1 I carried every wound like a treasure I could keep, Counted each offence while my spirit couldn't sleep. Bitterness took root where the pain was buried deep, Envy, jealousy and hate were the harvest I would reap. Verse 2 I loved you, but I loved you with a list inside my hand, Waiting for a payment that you didn't understand. You never set the trap; I built it where I stand. Love that keeps no record is the love that God had planned. Pre-Chorus I said I'm holding on because I know I'm right, But being right won't set me free tonight. Chorus So I let it go, I let it go, Every chain from the past, every stone I would throw. Lord, give me grace to forgive from within, Trade my ashes for beauty, let new life begin. Give me a free heart, a free heart, Where offence finds no room and the past has no part. Verse 3 "Where there is no vision, the people perish," so I see Myself face to face with the one who wounded me. I feel the weight lift off, I feel what free will be, And the feeling is my prayer, rising up to Thee. Verse 4 I wrote it in a letter, every tear and every name, Then I gave it up to heaven and I laid it in the flame. I'll pray it till no shadow of the bitterness remains, Then speak it in the name of Jesus, and I'm not the same. (Chorus) Bridge Father, forgive them, I lift them up to You, Wash away their sin the way You washed me too. Now I'm out of the way, so work Your will in them. What doesn't bring You glory, I won't pick it up again. And if the ache comes back, I won't fight it all alone, I'll go and ask for prayer till Your peace becomes my own. Verse 5 So I pick up the phone, and my voice no longer shakes. I say, "I love you, I'm not mad," and something in me wakes. Every day I'll choose it, on purpose, with my will, To love with open hands and expect nothing still. Final Chorus I let it go, I let it go, Every chain from the past, every stone I would throw. Lord, keep me loving the way that You do, With nothing expected, just grace flowing through. I've got a free heart, a free heart, Where offence finds no room and the past has no part. Outro This freedom is a garden that I'll tend and I'll keep, Love without conditions, planted wide and deep. A free heart... a free heart. — The Spiritual Engineer
