The Bull Who Never Gave Up | The Merchant, the Bull and the Lion | Panchatantra Story Episode-2

A young merchant named Vardhamanaka sets off for Mathura with his two bullocks, Sanjivaka and Nandaka. When Sanjivaka hurts his leg by the river Yamuna, he is left behind to rest and recover - and slowly, gently, he does. Grown strong again, his big new bellow travels through the jungle and reaches a lion named Pingalaka, who is more frightened by it than he lets anyone see. Two watchful jackals, Karataka and Damanaka, notice something is wrong with their king. This is the gentle opening of Book 1 of the Panchatantra - 'Conflict Amongst Friends' - told by wise Vishnu Sharma to the three princes, made for children aged 3 to 8. Moral: Even when things look very hard, keep trying - and be kind to those who help you. A note for parents: Sanjivaka is left behind while he heals, and for a little while everyone believes he has not survived. We show this softly, with no injury on screen, and the story turns gentle and hopeful again quickly as he recovers. Talk about it together: What helped Sanjivaka get strong again? Why do you think Pingalaka didn't want the other animals to know he was scared? Have you ever kept trying at something that felt hard?
