In 2003, an eighteen-year-old programmer in Sweden started a website on a computer under a bed in his parents' home. It didn't host a single movie, game or song, only small files that pointed to them. Five years later, The Pirate Bay was one of the 100 most visited websites in the world. Hollywood sent lawyers. The Swedish police raided it. Courts in many countries blocked it. All three founders ended up in prison. And the site is still online today. In this video, we look at why so many people still pirate in 2026: 80 dollar games, monthly software subscriptions, eight streaming services to watch everything, and "purchases" that are really just licenses. Then we go deep into the story of Gottfrid Svartholm and The Pirate Bay, from Piratbyrån to raids, trials, Cambodia, Denmark and a phoenix logo. And at the end, I'll tell you what I think. If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing.
