America's New AI Robot Wingman Is Shaking the Entire Aviation Industry

For the first time, an F-22 Raptor pilot has commanded a robot wingman in flight. In early October 2026, flying out of Edwards Air Force Base, a Raptor pilot acted as an "airborne quarterback" and sent high-level orders over a tactical data link to Anduril's YFQ-44A Fury, a Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA). The drone's own autonomy software worked out how to fly each order, through hours of maneuvers and simulated combat tasks. In this video we break down what actually happened, why the F-22 got this job before the F-35, the one detail in the Air Force's announcement most people missed, and the numbers behind the plan: a target of about $20 million per drone air vehicle, 500 combat-ready CCAs by 2032 and a fleet of 1,000.
