Date: 31st July 2026
Time: 8:24am
Route: 249 towards Clapham Common
Location: Balham Station + Hildreth St Market
Reg. no. LT63 UJX
I am a wheelchair user. As the bus approached my destination, Balham Station, I pressed the blue ramp request button in good time, and the siren alert was clearly audible, as can be heard in this video. The driver ignored the loud and obvious siren alert, ignored the visual alert on the dashboard, didn't deploy the ramp, and so I was unable to alight at my requested bus stop, Balham Station - the driver pulled away from the bus stop and drove on to the next stop, with me still onboard.
I pressed the blue ramp request button again, in good time, for the next stop, Hildreth St Market. Again the blue button's siren alert sounded loud and clear, as can be heard on this video.
On arrival at Hildreth St Market, the driver again ignored the loud and obvious siren alert, ignored the visual alert on the dashboard, and didn't deploy the ramp. She pulled away from the bus stop and drove on, with me still onboard.
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR HER NOT TO NOTICE SUCH A LOUD SIREN, TWICE IN SUCCESSION?
At this point I called to her STOP THE BUS, NOW! She stopped the bus. I told her I had pressed the blue buzzer for this stop and the previous stop. She queried with me which button I had pressed, even though I had just told her I had pressed the BLUE button, as you can hear on this video. She was insolent, rude, unapologetic and condescending - an intolerably unprofessional way of communicating with a passenger.
She made no apology for ignoring my two requests for the ramp at consecutive bus stops, for driving away from my originally requested bus stop with me still onboard, and for taking me against my will to the next bus stop.
This is part of a continuing pattern of appallingly rude and negligent driver behaviour on the 249 route.
