FORGOTTEN SUNRISE (ESTONIA) - FOREVER SLEEPING GREYSTONES (EP) - Iron Fortress Records 2026

Before they ventured into the experimental and industrial territory that would define their later years, Estonia’s Forgotten Sunrise emerged from the underground with two pieces of early ’90s death metal. Formed in Tallinn in 1992, the band recorded their debut demo ‘Behind the Abysmal Sky’ in 1993—a dark, atmospheric dose of death/doom filled with crushing riffs, guttural vocals and the unmistakably bleak character of the era. The following year brought ‘Forever Sleeping Greystones’, a four-track mini-album that pushed their sound even further into strange and atmospheric territory. Doom-laden death metal collided with melancholic passages, clean and female vocals, and unexpected instrumentation including violin and flute, giving the record a character that stood apart from much of the European death metal underground at the time. Together, Behind the Abysmal Sky and Forever Sleeping Greystones capture Forgotten Sunrise during their brief but fascinating death metal era—raw, gloomy, experimental and already showing signs of the genre-bending band they would eventually become. Both releases have been remastered and original layouts have been rebuilt to bring you two fascinating, obscure, and underground ‘90’s death metal to the compact disc format! CD pre-orders are live at www.ironfortressrecords.com with an expected release date of Friday, November 20th.
