Major Cut and Fill Works Asuakwaa and New Dormaa on the Sunyani Outer Ring Road 4K

On this episode of the Sunyani Outer Ring Road project, we are between Esiakwa and New Dormaa, where major earthworks are currently taking place. The contractor is carrying out cut-and-fill operations along this section of the road. You can see the excavator cutting into the higher ground and loading the material into trucks. The soil is then transported to the lower-lying sections, particularly around the Esiakwa Stream, to raise and level the road formation. The purpose is to bring the road to the required level and create a stable formation that will eventually support the road pavement and allow vehicles to move safely across this low-lying section. At the same time, workers are constructing U-shaped side drains along the road. These drains are important because they will collect and channel stormwater away from the road, helping to protect the road structure from water damage, especially during heavy rainfall. When completed, this section of the Sunyani Outer Ring Road will provide an important alternative route around the city. Vehicles travelling from Techiman and the northern part of Ghana towards Dormaa, Berekum and beyond will be able to use the outer ring road without having to pass through Sunyani's central business district. Similarly, traffic coming from Berekum, Dormaa and towards the Côte d’Ivoire corridor, and heading towards Techiman and the north, will have the option of using this route to bypass the busy central parts of Sunyani. So, while the work here may look like simply moving soil from one place to another, these cut-and-fill operations and drainage works are critical steps in preparing the road for the next stages of construction. As the formation takes shape, the project will gradually move towards the subsequent pavement construction stages.
