Everest Base Camp Ride Part 11 - Closing in on Mt. Everest

Welcome to part 11 of this series. We are now one video away from Mt. Everest. In this part we travel from Samye to Shigatse, visiting lakes and glaciers. We begin with a sunrise ride along a flat river valley / flood plain. The vistas are incredible, and we pass walking pilgrims and ladder murals painted on rock walls. We strat to climb, and at we visit Yajiang River Gorge Viewing Platform (4,280 meters / 14,042 feet). Here some of us are photographed with yaks and/or Tibetan mountain dogs. We then drop down to Yamdrok Lake (also known as Yamdrok Yumtso or Yamzho Yumco; Tibetan: ཡར་འབྲོག་གཡུ་མཚོ་, Wylie: yar 'brog g.yu mtsho, ZWPY: Yamzhog Yumco; Chinese: 羊卓雍錯; pinyin: Yángzhuó Yōngcuò, Yángzhuō Yōngcuò). One of the three largest lakes in Tibet. It is over 72 km (45 mi) long. Next stop is the Karola Glacier It is one of the three major continental glaciers in Tibet and serves as an eastern source for the Nyangchu River. The glacier's ice tongue sits at approximately 5,560 meters (18,240 feet), with the roadside viewing area around 5,040 to 5,400 meters, it sits on one of Tibet's holiest mountains. Next stop is The Turquoise Lake & Dam of Gyantse Tibet (4,250m), otherwise (but less poetically) known as the Manla Water Conservancy Hub Project (Chinese: 满拉水利枢纽工程), also Manla Reservoir (Chinese: 满拉水库), is situated in the upper sections of the Nangchu River in Longma Township, Gyantse County, Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet. The last route stop is at a traditional tea house near the Palcho Monastery.
