Quadeca’s third studio album, Vanisher, Horizon Scraper, is the third visual album released by the American musician. He combines the audible and visual here, drawing upon a myriad of experimental techniques found within both mediums. Through the lens of early landscape-driven/aquatic avant-garde cinema, Homer’s The Odyssey (+ its 1989 film adaptation, Nostos: The Return by Franco Piavoli), and Quadeca’s overall artistic style, I analyze the film and album, explaining why I love the project. Its categorization as a visual album is one of the many reasons why I believe these films are vital to cinema. Featuring the incredible Danny Brown and Manchester band Maruja, the album is ambitious to its core, piercing you with its humanistic touch.
