The $100 Million Diamond Heist Ruined by a Sandwich

In February 2003, five men broke into the most secure vault on earth, two floors beneath the streets of Antwerp. They beat heat sensors, motion sensors, a magnetic field and a lock with 100 million combinations, and walked out with more than $100 million in diamonds, gold and cash. Then one of them panicked, and a half-eaten salami sandwich brought the whole thing down. This is the story of the Antwerp Diamond Heist: the insider who spent two and a half years studying the vault, the crew called the School of Turin, the night they did the impossible, and the tiny human mistake that undid it.
