The Cost of Shopping for Our Imaginary Selves

Have you ever looked in your closet and realized you’ve been buying clothes for a version of yourself that doesn’t quite exist? I certainly have. And the cost isn’t just the money we spend on clothes we rarely or never wear. There can be an emotional cost too. For me, that has sometimes meant buying clothes based on how I thought I should look, trying to look thinner, or dressing for the woman I imagined I might become instead of appreciating and dressing the woman I already was. Then there’s Veronique, my alter ego. 😝 She has fabulous plans, takes fabulous vacations and shops for a much different life than I do! Maybe we don’t need a whole new wardrobe.
