Geological wonders that don't seem real — rainbow mountains, blue ice caves and a forest under a lake. In this 4K travel video, we count down 20 natural wonders of the world, from the Giant's Causeway to the cliffs of Étretat, and show how each one really formed. Every place was built by just four of Earth's tools: fire, water, ice and time. Fire laid about 40,000 stone columns along the coast of Northern Ireland, buried a Bronze Age town on Santorini more than 3,000 years ago — and still heats the ground of Timanfaya, where sensors 13 meters down record more than 600 °C. Water carved the cenotes of Yucatán along the rim of the asteroid crater that helped wipe out the dinosaurs 66 million years ago, and builds new waterfalls at Plitvice Lakes every year. Ice shapes the blue ice caves of Vatnajökull, which last a single winter, and the 240-foot wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier. And time painted the rainbow mountain of Vinicunca, hidden under snow until about a decade ago, the striped hills of Zhangye Danxia, and the sea stacks of the Twelve Apostles. Along the way: Lake Kaindy, where a drowned spruce forest still stands upright and its tree rings rewrote the date of the earthquake that made it; Victoria Falls, "the smoke that thunders"; Lake Baikal, the deepest and oldest lake on Earth; and Étretat, the chalk arches Claude Monet painted more than fifty times. These are some of the most beautiful places on Earth, places that don't look real — strange places on Earth that are very real. Which of Earth's four tools do you think built the strangest place on this list?
