After an absence nearly 15 years having undergone a comprehensive and controversial overhaul started by the now defunct 6024 Preservation Society and finished by its new owner Locomotive Services Limited, GWR King Class no 6024 ‘King Edward I’ would make its public debut following overhaul and testing at the Nene Valley Railway over the weekend 10th-11th October 2026, titled ‘Travels with a King’ the 4-6-0 would work it’s first revenue earning trains since March 2012
This would be the first time ever that a GWR King Class would grace the metals of the Nene Valley Railway
Filmed on Saturday 10th October the King is seen at a number of locations along the line facing boiler first east towards Peterborough, which provides some unique views on the short double track section outside of Orton Mere in more than favourable weather conditions for mid-autumn
The return of the King has been a long time coming and so we look forward to the next 10 years of action from this fine locomotive in its new career!
