SAMPA LHUNDUP Sampa Lhundrupma (བསམ་པ་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་མ་), translating to The Prayer that Spontaneously Fulfills All Wishes, is an extraordinarily sacred prayer addressed to Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). It is the inner practice of The Guru’s Heart Practice: The Wish-Fulfilling Jewel (Tukdrup Yishin Norbu), hidden as a spiritual treasure (terma) at Yamalung by Guru Rinpoche in the 8th century and revealed by the great tertön Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa in the 19th century. The 13 Visualizations: Each verse describes Guru Rinpoche in a unique manifestation or setting (e.g., as a universal monarch, a wrathful deity, or a peaceful yogi) designed to conquer a specific human crisis. 3. The Ultimate Refrain: Every verse ends with the powerful request: "From the lotus-mouth of the Guru of Orgyen, comes the promise: 'I will spontaneously fulfill all your wishes.' Spontaneous Wish-Fulfillment: It aligns the practitioner’s mind with the cosmic field of merit, clearing hidden karmic blocks so that both spiritual aspirations (achieving realizations) and worldly needs (food, shelter, prosperity) are effortlessly met without struggle. 2. Protection Against Sudden Death and Violence: Specific verses shield the practitioner from the horrors of war, weapons, sudden accidents, and malicious attacks. It is heavily recited during times of global political instability. 3. Eradication of Disease and Epidemics: The prayer actively neutralizes environmental toxins, plagues, and incurable terminal illnesses by invoking Guru Rinpoche as the ultimate medicine buddha. 4. Safe Passage and Travel Protection: It guards against natural perils encountered during travel, such as attacks by wild animals, shipwrecks, landslides, freezing temperatures, and getting lost in treacherous terrains. 5. Dispelling Spirits and Dark Magic: It acts as an energetic shield against black magic, curses, negative astrological alignments, and harms caused by unseen elemental spirits (nagas, gyalpos, or sinpos). 5. Bypassing the Bardo Fears: For the dying practitioner, reciting this text guarantees that Guru Rinpoche will manifest in the post-death intermediate state (bardo) to escort their consciousness directly to the Copper-Colored Mountain Pure Land (Zangdok Palri).
