Centred around a large ornamental lake, the park blends open water, tree-lined paths, and elegant Victorian landscaping into a peaceful retreat within the city. With swans gliding across the water and wide views stretching toward the iconic lighthouse memorial, it’s a walk that feels calm, spacious, and quietly uplifting. 🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore Roath Park first opened to the public in 1894, created during the Victorian era when city parks were designed as places of beauty and fresh air for growing urban populations. The park is divided into several distinct sections, but its heart is the expansive Roath Park Lake, a broad stretch of water that instantly draws the eye and anchors the landscape. At the centre of the lake stands the Scott Memorial Lighthouse, a striking white tower built in 1915 to honour Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his Antarctic expedition. The lighthouse sits on a small island and has become one of Cardiff’s most recognisable landmarks, its reflection often mirrored perfectly on calm days.
