BlueRiver serves retailers, hotels, restaurants, and private-label customers. At first glance, that may look like a simple customer list. In practice, it creates a strategic problem. Retailers may value volume, reliable delivery, stable packaging, and price discipline. Hotels may care more about presentation and the guest experience. Restaurants may expect flexibility, practical formats, and a fast response. Private-label customers require strict specification control, traceability, approved artwork, confidentiality, and disciplined change management. These expectations do not always fit together. Low cost may require standardization. Customization creates complexity. Long production runs improve efficiency, while frequent changes increase flexibility. Trying to satisfy every customer in the same way often leads to mediocre performance. ISO 9001 is intentionally generic. It can be applied to any organization and to any type of customer. But once it is implemented, the Quality Management System cannot remain generic. It must reflect the organization’s strategic choices, target customers, and the promises it intends to fulfill. That choice shapes the heart of the QMS: the commitments made in the quality policy, the objectives that deserve priority, the processes that are critical to competitive success, and the capabilities that must become reliable rather than dependent on heroic effort. In this short teaser for Episode 2 of BlueRiver — ISO 9001:2026 in Real Life, BlueRiver faces a fundamental question: 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗤𝗠𝗦? Episode 2 will explore why choosing target customers is one of the first and most important decisions when designing a practical and strategically aligned Quality Management System.
