Ecweru Hails UPDF Arrest of Retired General Peter Elwelu

Former State Minister for Works and Transport Musa Ecweru has commended the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) for the arrest of retired General Peter Elwelu, describing the operation as an important step towards safeguarding peace and stability in the Teso sub-region. Ecweru says Elwelu's arrest provides an opportunity to address security concerns through established legal processes rather than allowing tensions to escalate. Addressing the media in Soroti City, Ecweru praised the UPDF for what he described as a professional operation following Elwelu's arrest after days in hiding. Last week, Ecweru had urged the retired general to surrender to security agencies amid allegations linking him to plans to overthrow the government and destabilise the region
