After returning from Arkari Valley the previous night, I spent the night in Booni. The next morning, I started a new adventure from Juniper Hotel, first visiting Booni Bazaar for breakfast before beginning my journey towards Qaqlasht Meadows and Tirich Valley.
This road connects the beautiful Qaqlasht region with the valleys ahead and eventually divides into two routes leading towards Qaqlasht and Torkho Valley. Along the way, I reached a viewpoint from where Molkho village, the tehsil headquarters of Torkho and Molkho, and the spectacular Zaini Pass were visible. Below, the mighty Rich Gol River flows through the mountains before joining the Chitral River.
My journey continued through the beautiful villages of Istaro and Werkup. In Werkup, I experienced the incredible hospitality of local people who picked fresh pears from their trees and offered them to me. They even packed the remaining pears in a bag for my journey. Moments like these remind me why travelling through the remote valleys of Pakistan is such a special experience.
After Werkup, I reached Rayeen, where the road branches towards Rich Valley. This region is also associated with the history of uranium exploration during Pakistan's early nuclear energy programme. However, my destination for the day was not Rich Valley. I crossed the river and the Tirich stream to enter the breathtaking Tirich Valley.
My journey took me through Lonku, Lolemi and Zundarngram, the largest village in the valley, with more than 350 households. Tirich Valley is predominantly Sunni, while a small Ismaili community of around five households lives in Zundarngram. The locals welcomed me warmly with tea and fresh apricots, making this journey even more memorable.
Passing through Warimoon and Souch, I finally reached Shagrom, the last village of Tirich Valley. The hospitality of its people was wonderful, but the natural beauty of this remote mountain village was equally impressive.
From Shagrom, the route continues deeper into the mountains towards the Tirich Mir Base Camp. The trail passes through Bandook and Shanyak before reaching the base camp area, approximately 70 kilometres away, where many foreign mountaineers come to experience the mighty Tirich Mir.
During my stay in Shagrom, I witnessed the streams flowing down from the mountains, explored the surroundings and looked towards the point where the Zaini Pass route ends on the Tirich Valley side. After spending some unforgettable moments in this beautiful village, I started my return journey.
Darkness was approaching, and by the time I reached Mastuj, another incredible day of my 100 Days Solo Bike Journey had come to an end. But the adventure was far from over — the next day was waiting to bring an even bigger challenge!
