Youth Coach: The Book That Took Me From The Streets To Millions In Funding

What would you build if somebody finally showed you how money really works? Coach Jamil Jackson explains how one book turned a street hustle into a legal one, and how a judge's second chance became a lifetime of second chances for North Minneapolis youth. He never finished high school and never took a business class. He has raised millions of dollars in funding for his youth programs, built one of the longest running inner city high school basketball leagues in Minneapolis, cofounded the Minnesota Freedom Fighters, and was the first adult to invest in the MindShift founders when they were teenagers throwing parties 19 years ago. In this conversation, Coach Jamil explains: The Real Hustle: How reading Inc. Yourself showed him that credit, an EIN and a business in your name beat anything the streets were paying. Change Equals Opportunity: What it means to be the CEO of your own life, and why young men need conversations nobody else is having with them. The Second Chance: A judge told him "I see something in you that you don't even see in yourself," and he has been saying it to kids ever since. Exposure Is Everything: Why getting kids out of their four square block area and onto college campuses changes what they believe is possible. Hustlers Are CEOs: The one mind shift that taught him the real game, the money game. ⏱ CHAPTERS 00:00:00 Meet Coach Jamil Jackson 00:02:18 Who saw the value first? 00:03:44 The first party that ever made us money 00:06:33 Athletes first, then the streets came calling 00:06:46 The book that changed how he saw money 00:08:53 Flex Cam: three grown kids and a clean record 00:10:54 No diploma, millions in program funding 00:11:35 One of the longest running inner city leagues 00:15:25 What does it mean to be the CEO of your own life? 00:18:25 Why he never quit on young people 00:18:45 The case, the judge and the second chance 00:19:35 The $9,000 lesson nobody taught him 00:21:23 Every hustle he runs today 00:24:19 How the Minnesota Freedom Fighters started 00:26:52 Leading through the backlash 00:28:10 Why exposure trips change lives 00:32:05 What adults get wrong about young men 00:33:56 The dream: an elite sports school 00:35:05 19 years of building together 00:37:47 Would he ever run for office? 00:41:58 The mind shift: all hustlers are CEOs 00:42:42 The trailer cosign that grew Junk N My Trunk 00:46:15 The kid who stopped him on the street 00:48:39 "My number is on every prison wall in Minnesota" 00:50:45 What's next: a youth summit ━━━━━━━━━━ 🎤 FOLLOW COACH JAMIL JACKSON Youth coach, mentor and community leader in North Minneapolis.
