CJP Announces 24-Hour Anti-SIR Protest in Chennai Despite Police Denial | Big Test for CM Vijay

Anti-SIR protest Chennai, CJP (Cockroach Janta Party) is going ahead with a 24-hour agitation near Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore despite Chennai police denying permission. This is being called “Chennai’s Jantar Mantar 2.0” and puts Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and the ruling TVK under intense political pressure over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.The Cockroach Janta Party, the same youth-led group that earlier forced attention on the NEET paper leak, has announced the protest will begin at 4 pm today and continue until 4 pm tomorrow. Organisers are specifically calling Gen Z, Gen Alpha and Gen Beta to join the demand to scrap the SIR and for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.Police have clearly said permission was sought and denied. Organisers, however, say they will still go ahead for the full 24 hours, setting up a potential confrontation. Expected participants include CJP’s South India coordinator Vijay Reddy Mallangi, Kerala Rajya Sabha MP AA Rahim and DYFI general secretary Srijan Bhattacharya.This is a sharp test for Vijay’s TVK government. The party is part of the INDIA bloc that has opposed the SIR, and TVK itself has claimed it was a victim of the voter-list exercise (net reduction of about 73.4 lakh electors in Tamil Nadu). At the same time, as the ruling party it is expected to enforce police restrictions and maintain order. A crackdown could invite criticism that the state government is weakening the anti-SIR movement; allowing the protest could create friction with the Centre.
