Tyr, Old Norse Týr, is one of the oldest and most enigmatic gods of Germanic and Norse mythology. He stands for courage, law, oath, battle, and sacrifice. His best-known story tells how he places his hand into the jaws of the wolf Fenrir so the gods can bind Fenrir with Gleipnir. Tyr loses his hand, yet through this sacrifice he becomes a symbol of duty, loyalty, and a law that remains firm even when the price is severe.
Tyr
Strophe 1
Kalt steht das Recht
im Kreis der Macht.
Kein lautes Wort,
keine falsche Pracht.
Tyr steht still,
wo Urteil fällt.
Schwert an der Seite,
Blick in die Welt.
Kein Trick im Mund,
kein Schattenplan.
Nur Pflicht aus Stahl
geht ihm voran.
Vorrefrain
Wenn jeder schwankt
und keiner spricht,
steht Tyr im Sturm
und senkt den Blick nicht.
Refrain
Ein Eid aus Stahl!
Ein Blick aus Stein!
Tyr geht voran
und steht allein!
Die Hand verloren,
die Pflicht bleibt schwer!
Ein Gott zerbricht nicht —
er gibt nur mehr!
Strophe 2
Fenrir wächst
in dunkler Glut.
Wolfsmacht steigt
mit jedem Blut.
Die Götter sehen,
was keiner hält.
Ein Maul wie Nacht
verschlingt die Welt.
Doch einer geht
zum Untier hin.
Tyr kennt den Hunger,
kennt seinen Sinn.
Vorrefrain
Er füttert den Wolf,
er kennt die Gefahr.
Doch sein Schritt bleibt fest,
sein Opfer wird wahr.
Refrain: siehe oben
Strophe 3
Gleipnir glänzt
wie dünner Faden,
doch hält mehr Kraft,
als Eisen tragen.
Fenrir misstraut
dem Götterbund
und fordert Pfand
in seinem Schlund.
Tyr tritt vor,
kein Wort zu viel,
legt seine Hand
ins Wolfsprofil.
Vorrefrain
Der Kiefer schließt,
der Himmel schweigt.
Ein Eid zerreißt,
doch Tyr nicht weicht.
Refrain: siehe oben
Strophe 4
Einarmig steht er,
doch nicht klein.
Der Preis gebrannt
in Fleisch und Stein.
Sieg-Runen glühen
hart im Schwert.
Zweimal Tyr
im Kampf beschwört.
Wenn Ragnarök
den Himmel frisst
und Garm aus Schatten
Zähne misst,
Vorrefrain
dann geht Tyr vor
durch Rauch und Brand.
Das letzte Recht
in einer Hand.
Finaler Refrain
Refrain: siehe oben
Ein Eid aus Stahl!
Ein Blick aus Stein!
Tyr geht voran
in Feuerschein!
Wenn alles fällt
und keiner mehr steht,
bleibt Tyr der Gott,
der weitergeht!
Tyr
Verse 1
Cold stands the law
within the ring of might.
No thunderous word,
no false and shining light.
Tyr stands silent
where judgment is made.
Sword at his side,
eyes on the world displayed.
No trick on his tongue,
no shadowed plan.
Only steel-born duty
leads the god as a man.
Pre-Chorus
When all others tremble
and no one speaks,
Tyr stands in the storm
and never lowers his gaze.
Chorus
An oath of steel!
A gaze of stone!
Tyr goes forward
and stands alone!
The hand is lost,
the duty stays severe!
A god does not break —
he only gives more here!
Verse 2
Fenrir grows
in darkened glow.
The wolf’s power rises
with every blood-red flow.
The gods behold
what none can hold.
A mouth like night
would swallow the world.
Yet one goes forward
to the beast within.
Tyr knows its hunger,
knows its meaning grim.
Pre-Chorus
He feeds the wolf,
he knows the threat.
Yet his step stays firm,
his sacrifice is set.
Chorus: see above
Verse 3
Gleipnir is shining
like a slender thread,
yet holds more power
than iron ever had.
Fenrir mistrusts
the gods’ own bond
and demands a pledge
inside his yawning maw.
Tyr steps forward,
with no wasted word.
He lays his hand
where the wolf is stirred.
Pre-Chorus
The jaw closes,
the heavens grow still.
An oath is torn,
yet Tyr will not yield.
Chorus: see above
Verse 4
One-armed he stands,
yet never small.
The price is burned
in flesh and stone for all.
Victory-runes are glowing
hard upon the sword.
Twice is Tyr
in battle called.
When Ragnarök
devours the sky,
and Garm from shadow
bares his teeth nearby,
Pre-Chorus
then Tyr goes forward
through smoke and flame.
The final law
in one hand remains.
Final Chorus
Chorus: see above
An oath of steel!
A gaze of stone!
Tyr goes forward
in fire alone!
When all things fall
and no one still stands,
Tyr remains the god
who goes on to the end!
