2025 vs 2026 — are tech layoffs actually getting worse, or is AI changing the kind of jobs companies are cutting? In this video, we compare the latest tech layoff data from 2025 and 2026 and look beyond the headlines to understand what is really happening in the global technology job market. According to TrueUp, 2025 recorded 783 tech layoff events affecting about 245,953 people, while 2026 has already recorded more than 584 events affecting about 186,000 people according to its latest tracker. However, different layoff trackers report different totals because they use different definitions, sources and coverage. So rather than blindly comparing one number, this video looks at the broader trend. We also examine one of the biggest questions for IT professionals, freshers and job seekers: Is AI actually causing layoffs? According to Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Artificial Intelligence was cited in 101,743 U.S. job-cut announcements during the first half of 2026, representing about 23% of announced cuts in its dataset. But AI isn't the only factor. Companies are also restructuring, reducing costs, changing business models, improving productivity, consolidating teams and shifting investment toward AI and other newer technologies. We also discuss what this means for India and the IT industry, including companies such as TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro and other technology employers. The big question is no longer simply: “Will AI take my job?” The more important question may be: “Which skills will companies need when AI can do more of the routine work?” This video is for Indian students, freshers, software engineers, IT professionals, job seekers and anyone trying to understand the future of technology jobs. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: Layoff figures vary between trackers because methodologies and coverage differ. Numbers mentioned in this video are based on publicly available reports and trackers available at the time of research. Some figures represent announced job cuts rather than confirmed completed terminations. AI being cited as a reason for a job cut does not necessarily mean AI directly replaced every affected employee. This video is for informational and educational purposes and includes analysis and interpretation. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 – 2025 vs 2026: What's happening? 00:35 – The real layoff numbers 02:00 – Why different trackers show different numbers 03:20 – Biggest companies cutting jobs 05:00 – Is AI really causing layoffs? 07:00 – What is happening in India? 09:00 – TCS, Infosys & IT hiring 10:30 – Which jobs are most vulnerable? 11:40 – Which skills are becoming valuable? 12:30 – Final verdict What do you think? 👉 Is AI actually replacing jobs, or are companies using AI as one part of a much bigger restructuring?
