Valletta – the capital of Malta – is one of the smallest, yet most remarkable capital cities in Europe.
Located on the eastern coast of Malta.
It has a population of about 6–7 thousand inhabitants.
It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980.
In 2018, it was the European Capital of Culture.
Valletta was founded in 1566 by the Order of the Knights of Malta (the Knights Hospitaller) after the Great Siege of Malta by the Ottomans in 1565. The city was named in honor of the Grand Master of the Order, Jean de Valette.
St. John’s Co-Cathedral
