Decommissioned Vintage Home Hydraulic Elevator (EARLY Home Hydro!) in Redwood City, CA

There are potential plans for major renovations to this building, which would most likely include removal/replacement of this elevator. I actually didn't think I would be able to visit this elevator (as the building had closed, I assumed permanently), but the building was repurposed and re-opened, at least for now. To my knowledge, this elevator hasn't run for at least 15 years, possibly longer. The hoistway door on the 1st floor has been boarded up, but the hall station is still there. The hoistway door is not boarded up on the 2nd floor. This building has 3 floors, but the upper floors are not open to the public. I'm curious if this is a gated elevator, but I was unfortunately not able to see inside the car. Fixtures: Cutler-Hammer Year installed: Circa 1951 Date of recording: July 2026
