The higher you go, the more you learn about how people perceive you.
Sometimes, people become so accustomed to watching things work out for you that they forget you’re human, too.
They see you figure it out.
They see you pivot.
They see you rebuild.
They see you turn losses into lessons and obstacles into opportunities.
And somewhere along the way, your resilience becomes their expectation.
It’s almost as if the fact that you’ve always found a way makes people believe you’ll be fine regardless of how they treat you.
But being resilient doesn’t mean you don’t feel pain.
Being resourceful doesn’t mean you don’t need support.
Being successful doesn’t mean you don’t deserve consideration.
And being strong doesn’t mean you should always have to be strong.
Please don’t confuse someone’s ability to overcome a situation with their ability to withstand being mistreated.
I’m learning that one of the hardest parts of growth is accepting that some people will become so familiar with your ability to rise that they will forget you are a human being who can fall, too.
You can be the woman who makes things happen and still need someone to show up for you.
You can be the person everyone looks to for answers and still have moments when you need help finding your own.
You can have a history of things working out in your favor and still experience circumstances that hurt you deeply.
And none of that makes you less capable, less powerful, or less deserving of good things.
I’m learning to stop allowing my ability to figure things out to become an excuse for other people to give me less consideration.
I can be resilient without being endlessly available for disappointment.
I can be resourceful without accepting unnecessary hardship.
And I can trust God to carry me through difficult seasons without making excuses for the people who make those seasons harder than they need to be.
Because the goal isn’t simply to become so successful that nothing can stop you.
It’s to become discerning enough to recognize what you no longer need to tolerate on your way there.
So, how high do you want to go?
And as you climb, remember that your humanity deserves to come with you.
You are allowed to succeed without becoming the person everyone assumes can handle everything.
You are allowed to receive the same consideration you so freely give.
And you are allowed to build a life where your strength is celebrated, not exploited.
Keep going. But pay attention to who you become, who you bring with you, and what you are no longer willing to sacrifice to get there. 💕
