Today, I’m taking you with me to a unique temporary mountain fair in the remote highlands of Northern Vietnam, just a short walk from where I live.
At this local fair, we discover a side of Vietnamese food and mountain culture that many international visitors may have never seen before. One of the most surprising dishes is Tiết Canh, a traditional Vietnamese blood pudding made here with horse blood, cooked meat, cartilage, and local herbs.
I decide to try it for myself—and honestly, the experience is very different from what I expected!
But the fair is about much more than unusual food. We’ll explore colorful candy stalls, affordable household goods, local vendors, traditional entertainment, and the everyday life of people living in Vietnam’s northern mountains.
As night falls, I join four local friends for a steaming horse meat hotpot, mountain vegetables, and a small glass of traditional local corn wine. Surrounded by laughter, music, and friendly neighbors, this is a beautiful glimpse into the warmth and community spirit of rural Vietnam.
If you enjoy Vietnam travel, authentic Vietnamese food, remote mountain villages, local markets, ethnic minority culture, and real everyday life in Vietnam, I hope you’ll enjoy this journey with me.
Would you try Tiết Canh? Let me know in the comments!
