A ride on The Vale of Rheidol Railway | 19.8.25

I’ve been away in Pembrokeshire with family recently and so I decided I should go for a day out on the Vale of Rheidol Railway! We begin at Aberystwyth, exploring the newly opened museum that’s packed with fascinating narrow-gauge railway history and much more for any rail enthusiast to enjoy. From there, the star of the show makes her entrance, the mighty Garratt locomotive No. 60 as she arrives to take us on a spectacular steam journey through the stunning Vale of Rheidol. Built in 1927 by Hanomag in Germany as part of the South African Railways NG G13 class, specifically works number 10551, carrying the number No. 60 and later named Drakensberg, referencing the mountain range in South Africa. Enjoy the sights and sounds as we travel all the way to Devil’s Bridge, with breathtaking views along the way. To finish off, we watch No. 60 steam away once more, heading back towards Aberystwyth, rounding off what has been a truly picturesque adventure through the Welsh countryside.
