The Ash-tree by M. R. James | Ghost Story for Sleep

A classic ghost story by M. R. James, read aloud in the rain by candlelight. Everyone who has travelled over Eastern England knows the smaller country-houses with which it is studded — the rather dank little buildings, usually in the Italian style, surrounded with parks of some eighty to a hundred acres. A quiet, unhurried reading of "The Ash-tree" - one of the lesser-known corners of classic horror fiction, brought back for a dark, candlelit night. M. R. James (1862-1936) was a British medievalist and provost of King's College, Cambridge, who wrote ghost stories as a private pastime - reading them aloud to friends on Christmas Eve. New ghost stories are added every week - subscribe so you don't miss the next one, or drop by the 24/7 livestream for an always-on fire, rain, and a story already in progress. All stories are classic public-domain works. The narration voice is AI-generated. #GhostStories #MRJames #ClassicHorror
