In this video, we break down the real robotaxi economics behind Tesla Cybertruck, Waymo, and Uber. The cost per mile comparison is not close. Waymo’s robotaxi platform carries a much higher sticker price, higher depreciation per mile, and heavier energy demands, while Tesla’s Cybertruck and Cybercab are built around fewer parts, lower production costs, and a leaner autonomous stack. When you add Uber’s commission on top of Waymo’s already expensive rides, the gap becomes impossible to ignore. This analysis explains why cheaper and better technology tends to win, and why the current Waymo plus Uber model may struggle to compete at scale.
We also explore what this means for Uber drivers. The median Uber driver earns roughly twenty one dollars an hour before expenses, and after gas, insurance, wear, and taxes, take home pay is much lower. But those same drivers could potentially buy a Cybertruck, place it on Tesla’s autonomous network, and earn similar or greater income without spending eight hours behind the wheel. We walk through depreciation, battery efficiency, lidar costs, utilization rates, gross profit per mile, and the possibility of owning a small Cybercab fleet. The numbers suggest that Uber drivers may have a stronger future as private fleet operators than as long term Uber partners.
