What happens when the future you planned disappears, the culture around you begins pressuring you to become someone else, and there seems to be no way out? Where is God when the world you knew no longer exists?
Daniel 1 begins in exactly that kind of upheaval. Jerusalem had been invaded, sacred treasures had been carried into Babylon, and Daniel and his friends were taken from their homeland into an empire determined to educate them, rename them, and prepare them for its service. Yet beneath the visible story of conquest and cultural pressure, another story was unfolding: God was there.
In this opening message of our Faithful in Babylon series, we explore what Daniel 1 can teach us about trusting the sovereignty of God when our plans collapse, remaining rooted in God when culture pressures our identity, and developing a faith capable of enduring for the long haul. Whether you are exploring Christianity, beginning to follow Jesus, or have walked with Him for many years, Daniel raises an important question: How do we remain faithful to God in a world that is constantly trying to form us?
