In this video, I’m taking on a job that, at first glance, looked fairly simple: removing a sea buckthorn bush — a plant known for its bright yellow-orange berries, but also for something else… an unbelievable number of thorns, ranging from tiny little spikes to some seriously large and razor-sharp ones. 🌿😳
When I arrived at the property and was about to start the job, the first thing the customer said to me was:
“Finally, someone who didn’t refuse to do it...” 😳
Honestly, after seeing the photos the customer had sent me, I never imagined just how difficult this bush was going to be.
The thorns were packed so tightly together and intertwined that sometimes it was almost impossible to grab a branch without getting stuck. And there were thorns everywhere — from the smallest ones to some measuring around 3 cm long!
Of course, it didn’t take long before I found out just how dangerous they could be myself. One thorn, approximately 3 cm long, went straight through a fairly thick leather glove and deep into my finger. 😬
The next day, I could definitely feel it, and luckily, the wound didn’t become infected. But even after one week, I could still feel quite a bit of pain in that finger.
I also ended up with plenty of scratches on my hands and legs. To be fair, part of the blame is mine — I simply wasn’t properly prepared for a job like this.
Although the job itself wasn’t particularly large, dealing with all those thorns made it take far longer than expected.
After removing the bush, I also used a stump grinder to remove the remaining roots from the ground. The homeowners had previously tried to finish the job themselves, but eventually gave up and told me they needed someone more experienced to take care of it.
And then came the best part...
When everything was finished, the customer was absolutely amazed by the result! 😃
She was so happy with how everything looked that she has already asked me to take on several more projects in October — and of course, I accepted them! 😊
So, a little warning from my side:
Be careful when working in the garden! 🌿⚠️
Accidents can happen even when you're not using chainsaws, hedge trimmers or other power tools. Sometimes, a simple bush can be more dangerous than you expect.
