The Forgotten Dead of Hurricane Road Cemetery - 3/11/2025

Hurricane Road Cemetery in Keene, New Hampshire dates back to 1795 and was originally known as the Third District Cemetery. Decades later, it became closely connected to the nearby Keene Town Farm, where poor and vulnerable residents lived from 1830 to 1876. Today, historians believe roughly 100 people are buried here, but many of the graves are marked only by simple, uninscribed fieldstones. These nameless markers are believed to include residents of the poor farm who died with little or no recognition.
