NITRO WV: A Literal Boom Town

Few people know that during WWI the United States built two massive gunpowder factories that dwarfed everything that came before. Construction began on the plant at Nitro WV in December 1917 and work on its sister plant (the Old Hickory plant) in Tennessee started soon after. However their mission ended before it really started when the war ended sooner than expected.
