While group tours are convenient, I would personally recommend hiring a private driver if possible so you can explore the area at your own pace and avoid the rigid schedules that humanity somehow keeps inventing for vacations meant to relax people. The scenery around Ouzoud is absolutely incredible. Towering waterfalls cascade nearly 360 feet (110 meters) into a lush gorge filled with olive trees, red rock cliffs, small cafes, traditional Berber villages, and winding walking paths. The name “Ouzoud” actually means “olive” in the local Berber language, which makes sense the second you arrive because olive groves are everywhere throughout the valley. We even got to see traditional olive oil processing methods still being used in the area, giving a glimpse into the agricultural culture that has existed here for generations. This destination has exploded in popularity over recent years, attracting both Moroccan and international travelers. A recently developed luxury 5-star hotel nearby is helping transform the region into an even bigger tourism destination. Despite the growing crowds, the natural beauty of the gorge and waterfalls still makes this one of the most unforgettable day trips from Marrakech.
