State Route 78 West | Blythe to Oceanside, CA | Full Length Highway Drive

In this drive we are traveling across the state of California, from near the Arizona border in Blythe to the coastline in Oceanside. Starting off Interstate 10, Highway 78 West goes mainly south through remote desert with numerous dips in the badlands landscape. A little further south, we go through the impressive Glamis Sand Dunes, where the scene has been used in a number of movies. As the highway goes west, the road gets flatter as it passes through the Brawley area and Westmorland. Leaving the Imperial Valley, we head west through Ocotillo Wells and Anza-Borrego State Park. The drive then climbs in elevation to Julian and gradually descends to Ramona and Escondido. Once in Escondido, the 78 becomes a 6-lane freeway for about 18 miles until it reaches Interstate 5 in Oceanside.
