"They were invited to a country-house party. They arrived with secrets, grudges, and enemies. Then a blizzard trapped them all together — and murder changed everything. Step into a chilling world of suspicion, deception, and classic British detective fiction with Death and the Dancing Footman, the celebrated mystery novel by Ngaio Marsh, adapted for BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Night Theatre. The eccentric and wealthy Jonathan Royal arranges an unusual weekend gathering at his country estate, deliberately inviting people who cannot stand one another. What begins as an uncomfortable house party becomes far more sinister when a violent snowstorm cuts the estate off from the outside world. With escape impossible and tensions mounting, a murder turns the gathering into a terrifying puzzle. Every guest has something to hide, old rivalries take on a darker meaning, and the truth becomes increasingly difficult to uncover. Enter Chief Detective Inspector Roderick Alleyn, the astute investigator faced with a baffling crime in an isolated country house. As he questions the guests and examines their conflicting stories, a seemingly insignificant detail involving a dancing footman becomes crucial to understanding the mystery. Who had the motive? Whose alibi can be trusted? And can Alleyn identify the murderer before suspicion consumes everyone trapped inside the snowbound mansion? Written by Ngaio Marsh, one of the great writers of the Golden Age of Detective Fiction, Death and the Dancing Footman combines an atmospheric country-house setting, an ingenious murder puzzle, eccentric characters, and the suspense of a classic locked-room mystery.
