#Chouluru #VijayanagaraHistory #TeluguInscriptions #karnatakahistory #archaeology #epigraphy #indianhistory #KDhanapal #LoftyLand ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ–ಆಂಧ್ರಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಗಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಹಿಂದೂಪುರ ಸಮೀಪವಿರುವ ಚೌಳೂರು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯಂತೆ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಎರಡು ಅಪರೂಪದ ಶಾಸನಗಳು ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಕಾಲದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಬದುಕಿನ ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಮೊದಲನೆಯದು ಕನ್ನಡ ಶಾಸನ. ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ ದಾನ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಟಪ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಇದು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದೆ. ಇದರ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವಿಶೇಷ ಅಂಶವೆಂದರೆ, ಧಾನ್ಯ ಅಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ‘ಕೊಳಗ’ ಎಂಬ ಮಾಪನವನ್ನು ಪದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯದೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಚಿಹ್ನೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಸೂಚಿಸಿರುವುದು! ‘ಮೂರುವರೆ ಕೊಳಗ’ ಎಂಬ ಅಳತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ಈ ಸಂಕೇತವು ಕನ್ನಡ ಶಾಸನ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ಅಪರೂಪದ ದಾಖಲೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಎರಡನೆಯದು ಕ್ರಿ.ಶ. 1556ರ ತೆಲುಗು ಶಾಸನ. ಚೌಳೂರನ್ನು ಅಂದು ‘ಚೌತೂರು ಅಲಿಯಾಸ್ ತಿಮ್ಮಸಮುದ್ರಂ’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು ಎಂಬುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ, ವಿವಿಧ ಶಾಖೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸೂತ್ರಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ‘ವಿಪ್ರವಿನೋದಿಗಳು’ ಹನುಮಂತರಾಯ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ದಾನವನ್ನೂ ಇದು ದಾಖಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಪ್ರವಿನೋದಿಗಳೆಂಬ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುವ ಕೆಲವೇ ಶಾಸನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೂ ಒಂದು. ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ಅಂತ್ಯಕಾಲದ ರಾಜಕೀಯ–ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಈ ಸಮುದಾಯವು ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ನೆಲೆಸಿದ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯೇನು? ಕೊಳಗಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕ ಚಿಹ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ಏಕೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು? ಒಂದೇ ಊರಿನ ಎರಡು ಶಾಸನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿರುವ ಈ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಸಂಶೋಧಕರಾದ ಕೆ. ಧನಪಾಲ್ ಅವರು ಈ ಸಂಚಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
