In 1856, Liscrona House was designed by the renowned architect, James Pain, for the MacDonnell landlords. Pain also designed Dromoland Castle, Lough Cutra Castle and countless bridges and churches. Paul’s highly illustrated lecture will reveal insights into the planning and design of Liscrona and profile its occupants over the years. The fascinating building accounts, materials, and fitting out cost of Liscrona were recently rediscovered as part of a much larger archive, in the attic of a house on the North Circular Road in Limerick. Dr Paul O’Brien is a historian and lecturer at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. He is a founder member of Kilrush and District Historical Society. His publications include The Glynns of Kilrush, County Clare, 1811–1940: Family, business and politics (2019). Paul is the editor of the North Munster Antiquarian Journal and also serves on the Council of Europa Nostra. He has contributed to radio and television programmes for RTÉ and the BBC. 🎙️ New to streaming or looking to level up?
