Give Ilia his REMATCH!

The resistance to an immediate rematch between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje has surprised Chael Sonnen. Topuria entered their first fight undefeated, as a former featherweight champion, lightweight champion and the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He was also a significant favorite before Gaethje pulled off the upset. Now some are arguing that Topuria needs to rebuild before getting another opportunity. Chael doesn't buy it. Historically, champions in Topuria's position have received immediate rematches, particularly after a stoppage. And if the argument against Gaethje is about protecting Topuria, Chael points out another problem: the supposed "safer" alternatives include fighters like Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira, both of whom have already beaten Gaethje. Meanwhile, Arman Tsarukyan, Mauricio Ruffy and others are still sorting out their own positions in the lightweight title picture.
