ALL Countries With McDonald's | Mapped 1940-2026

How did a single burger stand in San Bernardino, California, turn into a global empire of more than 40,000 restaurants in over 100 countries? In this animated map we follow McDonald's year by year, from 1940 to 2026. Watch it jump from the United States to Canada and Puerto Rico in 1967, sweep across Europe and Asia, open its famous first restaurant in Moscow in 1990, and reach almost every corner of the world. The map also shows where McDonald's failed: Bolivia (2002), Iceland (2009) and Russia (2022) are among the countries it left. Which country surprised you the most? Tell us in the comments.
